About Olly Newland

Olly Newland is a legend in property investing in New Zealand.

Olly Newland was born in Lower Hutt, grew up in Plimmerton, then Karori, Wellington and, as a teenager, in Auckland, New Zealand.

For more than a quarter of a century, Olly Newland has been sharing his hard-won insights, advice and warnings.
Through seminars, columns, and plain-talking, easy to follow, best-selling books, Olly has accurately foretold market changes. He’s alerted investors to arising opportunities, and
warned them of scams, traps and pitfalls. Never far from controversy, Olly has earned the acclaim and respect of generations of kiwi investors.

In his books, The Coming Property Boom (1978), The Property Boom (1981), and Lost Property (1994, updated 2001, 2007) he correctly foresaw many of the coming market events. His The Rascal’s Guide to Real Estate (2002) is a real-world handbook for today’s property investor and in his book, The Day the Bubble Bursts this supremely experienced investor and dealmaker alerts investors about a coming market transition and gives advice about how to make the most of opportunities coming. Climbing the Property Ladder recounts some of Olly’s adventures as an investor.
Even Olly’s older books are still quoted today and are keenly sought by those seeking insight and extra knowledge in a complex and fascinating field.

Through his top-rating TV Show Property Climbers Olly has reached hundreds of thousands of people, sharing his insights and impartial advice.

Wheeling and dealing through the 1960s and ’70s, Olly saw and accurately foretold the huge increases in property prices that swept the market during that period. By the late ’70s he had bought and sold literally hundreds of houses.
In the ’80s he founded a very successful public company, Landmark, specialising in commercial property investments. Landmark grew from $5 million to $500 million in just a few years. Along with most others, it was swept away by the cataclysmic events of 1987, which few people foresaw.

Since then he has pursued in private an active role investing in a mixture of residential and commercial properties on a long-term basis.
Olly continues to deliver seminars on property investing in association with Empower Education and also offers a personal mentoring programme for a small group of people each year.

He lives in Auckland and remains married to his first wife. They have three adult children and an increasing brood of cherished grandchildren. He enjoys antiques collecting and classic cars.
